The Big 3

Do you have a long list of To-dos that seem to never get done or just never seem to move the needle in your business?  This tip below will help.

I’m a student of productivity.  I’m always looking for ways to improve how I work.

This one tip has made a huge impact on my business and it’s this….

Focus on your Big 3

What’s the “Big 3?”

It’s the 3 things that you MUST accomplish today no matter what.  What are the 3 things that will move your business forward the most today?

It most likely won’t be something like organizing your mail or scrolling through Facebook.
If you’re selling physical products online it might be calling on a wholesale account or getting out a shipment.
If you’re working on building your personal brand it might be writing a blog post or going live in your Facebook group.

Whatever your Big 3 is they need to be the 3 most important things that will make the most impact on your business.  Too often we get distracted with the fires that start and we never make progress on the important things that will really help us reach our goals.

So make it a practice to write down (either the night before or the morning) your 3 most important tasks and just focus on those.

The rest either can wait, can be delegated, or don’t need to be done at all.

Even Knuckleheads Can Do This!​

Are you a knucklehead?

Probably not, but even if you were you can build an online business.

My radio guest this week is my good friend Karl Jacobi and he says that when he started his business he was a complete knucklehead – making tons of mistakes.

I’ve definitely made my share of mistakes and had my knucklehead moments.  Just ask my wife.  🙂  The important thing is that knuckleheads like Karl and I have kept going.  We’ve kept learning and taking action.

When I asked Karl what he would do if he had to start over again he said he would

……start selling items from around his home

……source books because they’re inexpensive and have high profit

potential

……re-invest that money into replenishables (items that sell over and over again)

……get into the Amazon Legends group, develop relationships, and soak up the content

He cautioned, however, to soak up just one piece of the business at a time.  It’s so easy to get what we call shiny object syndrome and “hop around like a little squirrel.”

His advice is to get one part of the business going successfully, automate it and outsource it which will allow you to move on to something else.  Then rinse and repeat the process.

Karl just recently quit his job because of the success in his business and he credits much of his success to what he learned in the Amazon Legends group.

Even a Knucklehead Can Do It – 022

In the beginning of his e-commerce business, Karl Jacobi, made some knucklehead moves as he describes in this episode.

Your Blueprint for Multiple Streams of Income

I’m for sure not a contractor, but I know that when they build a house they have a plan…a blueprint.  A different contractor can come along and follow that same blueprint and build the same house.

The process I have used to create over 16 different streams of income is totally duplicatable using the blueprint I’ve included in this email below.

So many entrepreneurs are just trying to make ends meet so they jump from one “low hanging fruit” to the next, duct taping the

Are Goals Even for Me?

Do you ever get frustrated with goals?

Over the years I’ve set goals and failed to meet them and then felt like setting goals wasn’t for me.  Can you relate to that?

I was encouraged to hear that I’m not the only one so I recorded a radio show with 3 of my friends that have 3 different approaches.

That’s right…there’s not just one way to do it.

The common thread that runs through each of the approaches is taking action.  Just do those daily tasks that move you forward and you’ll get to your goals anyway.

In 2020 I’m going to focus more on each quarter than the whole year.  Sometimes I get tripped up with setting only annual goaIs. I put those things off because I have the whole year to get it done.  Then November rolls around and I’m no closer to that goal than I was on January 1.

Does that sound familiar?

So here’s my new easy way approach with goals as I start 2020:

1) Focus on Quarter 1 (January – March)
2) Write something down
3) Take daily action
4) Review and revise
5) Be open to new opportunity

Rather than just say “Goals aren’t for me” and not doing them at all I’m going to set some goals (in pencil) for quarter 1.  I’m going to focus more on those daily tasks that I need to be doing because I know that it’s those tasks over and over that will move me forward.

I’m going to review my goals often and revise as needed.  And lastly I’m going to be open to new opportunities that might appear that could end up being a priority for that quarter.  My radio show is a great example of that.  Having my own radio show was certainly not one of my goals this past year.  It wasn’t even on my radar, but the opportunity came along and I was able to take advantage of it.

So be encouraged, my friend, and let’s make 2020 our best year yet!

We Just Want Things to Stay the Same But Get Better

Man wouldn’t this be great………for things to be able to stay the same but get better?

Change is not comfortable.  Staying in our comfort zone is, but as my friend Tyson Priest says in his new book Delta to Victor “Nothing good comes from comfort zones.”

People who change the world must get used to change.

What do you want your life/business to look like one year from now?  Chances are it will require some type of change to make it happen, but the good news is it might not require a massive change.

Usually what our like looks like on December 30 is the result of small choices we make throughout the year.  For example losing weight might require something as simple as just cutting out sugary drinks.  Adding a new income stream in your business might require outsourcing something you’re currently doing to free up your time.

If looking at the big result you need seems daunting then just focus on the small tasks and changes that will get you there.  Do that day after day and the big result will automatically happen.

18 Streams of Income?!?!

In a recent Facebook post my friend Jenni Hunt revealed that she had about 18 different streams of income.  It has got quite a bit of engagement as people are wondering how in the world she has done that.

When you hear this or when someone takes a screenshot of their sales and it’s some ungodly number you aren’t anywhere close to, you either are motivated because “if they can do it, so can I” or it deflates you and makes you feel like a failure for not performing to their level.

My encouragement to you is run your own race.  STOP comparing your business or even your life to someone else’s.  You don’t know their situation.  Maybe they don’t have a full time job like you do or maybe they’re not homeschooling 4 kids like you are.

Now I’m not saying that you should find excuses if your business is not where you want it to be or if you’re not putting in the work.  I’m saying stop looking at what others have and are doing and focus on you.  You can do this!!!

Now back to Jenni’s 18 different streams of income…..we’re not talking about a list that looks like this:

1) Selling on Amazon
2) Running a Daycare
3) Mowing lawns on the weekend
4) Hanging Christmas Lights for neighbors
5) Fitness Trainer

The above don’t complement each other at all.  While you could build out streams of income that have nothing to do with each other, it’s MUCH easier to take one skill or one theme and create multiple streams from that.

For example, let’s say you make the best paleo desserts (no dairy, no gluten, no sugar) that people who don’t necessarily eat that way wouldn’t even realize they don’t have all the other stuff in them.  Melane buys desserts like this from a local small business owner.  I’ve talked to this girl about how she could take her skill and create new streams of income from it.

What would you tell her?

Here are some of the ideas I gave her…

  1. Recipe Book
  2. Course on how to bake paleo desserts
  3. Blog
  4. Youtube Channel with instructional videos
  5. Private label her own paleo ingredients

This is a tiny list.  There are so many opportunities out there to take one skill or one piece of content and create multiple streams of income.

2020?!?!? Are you Kidding Me?

Just saying the year 2020 makes me think of the Jetsons cartoon that I used to watch as a kid, but where are all the flying cars and the robots that should be cleaning my house for me?  🙂

I may still have to load our dishwasher, but I’m excited about a new year.  It’s like a fresh start.

These last few weeks of the year are a perfect time to be thinking about what you want 2020 to look like.

Can I be honest with you?

I’ve read so many books about goal setting and achieving goals, being productive and focused yet I’ve failed so many times.

I find myself being busy, but not always on the most important work.  I work from home and I wouldn’t change that for anything, but having a toddler clamoring for my attention at all times makes it challenging to get things done. 

Over the years I’ve set goals and failed to meet them and then felt like setting goals wasn’t for me.

But I can go back into my journal and see where I’ve written down some pretty major things and I’m living out right now what I wrote in my journal.  So I’m not a complete failure.  🙂
I will always be a student of how to be more productive because time is precious and I think setting goals is important, but I no longer let it bother me if I fall short.  Because as I look back over the last 11 years of having my own business I can clearly see that I’ve progressed  Business is better than it was and I’m doing work that I love. 

So let me encourage you if you feel like you’ve been a failure at setting goals.  Your goals can be in pencil which means they can be revised.  The important thing is to write something down, take action on it, and review those goals often.  If 3 months down the road you need to change the goal do it and don’t feel bad about it.  Just keep moving forward daily on those actions that will move your business forward.
