It was the night before Christmas…..wait no. 🙂
It was actually the night before CES III in Louisville, KY. CES was the name then of our annual Amazon seller’s conference that we now call the Proven Conference.
The keynote speaker for that year was Dan Miller and he was hanging out and getting to know Jim Cockrum and all of the leaders in our community. Before we we all retired for the night I happened to be at the back of the room with Dan when he decided that he needed to bring down the boxes of his book 48 Days to the Work you Love to the conference room.
He happened to ask me to help. We chatted on the elevator ride up and down and because I assisted him he gave me a copy of his book.
Soon after that conference I read it and I immediately identified with him and his message and have been a student of his ever since.
I mention this often, but meeting Jim Cockrum as a result of winning his auction was another happening. Out of all of the people in his audience I won and that kicked off a relationship that has lead to so many profitable win-win-win partnerships between us.
Call it coincidence or luck, but these happenings happen too often to be chalked up to luck. I call it being it at the right place at the right time, but there is no way that I can orchestrate all of it.
A verse that has guided me over the years is Proverbs 3:5,6 which says “Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.”
I think a major key to my success has been that I realize that I don’t know it all and can’t do it all alone. I know that if I’m going to accomplish all that the Lord has put on my heart that I’ll HAVE to rely on Him to lead me and put me in the right place at the right time and, yes, that includes meeting the right people.
If your dreams are things that you can accomplish on your own or orchestrate all by yourself then they’re not big enough. Give up trying to have it all figured out in your own understanding.
Lean on and trust in Him. He will make straight and plain your paths.
