Last week I shared about the time in our business when we were selling furniture on Craigslist and things were going very well.
Then suddenly one morning we woke up to find many of our Craigslist ads deleted.
About 1/3 of our business instantly vanished.
It was at that point that we had a choice to make – let fear and worry overtake us or trust the word of the Lord.
This reminds me of the story in Mark 4 where Jesus is preaching to a large group of people and when evening came he turns to his disciples and says “Let us go over to the other side [of the lake].”
Then in verse 37 it says “And a furious storm of wind [of hurricane proportions] arose.”
1/3 of our business vanishing felt like a furious storm. If you’ve been in business for any length of time I know you’ve gone through your own “furious storms.”
But let me tell you a secret….Jesus is in the boat with us!
It’s in those moments when furious storms arise in business and life that we all have a choice – focus our eyes on the storm which brings in a tremendous amount of fear and worry or fix our eyes on the one in the boat with us.
What were the words He told the disciples before they even got in the boat?
“Let us go to the other side.”
That storm was not a surprise to Him and the storm didn’t change His words.
He didn’t lead them out into the lake to drown. They made it to the other side.
He didn’t lead you into this business to fail.
Whatever you’re going through right now that feels like a furious storm I encourage you to get your eyes off of the storm and focus them on Him and His word.
And you’ll surely see the other side.
