The Best Investment You’ll Ever Make

What do you think the best investment you can make is?

Life Insurance?

There is a lot of argument over the above, but I would submit that the absolute best investment you can make is in yourself.

Jim Rohn said “Poor people have big TVs.  Rich people have big libraries.”

I may never meet the world’s best business minds, but I can learn from them by reading or listening to their books, listening to their podcasts, taking their courses, and attending their events.

Every year people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to receive a piece of paper that hangs on their wall that represents a degree they may never use.  And then they balk at spending $97 on a course that can make them back those hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Let’s take selling online as an example….I realize that with the internet there is a ton of free information out there.  So, yes, you could digest all the free info out there and start a business, but your time is super valuable.  It’s tedious work trying to wade through the plethora of content and then filtering through it for the best most accurate, up to date stuff.

And if you’re just starting out you might not even realize that the video you just watched is obsolete because Amazon changes so fast.

An investment into an online course or coaching program can save you time and money by short-cutting the process and helping you avoid mistakes that others make along the way

I’ve personally spent and continue to spend thousands of dollars every year on continuing education in the form of books, courses, mastermind groups, and live events.

I can guarantee you that my business would not be where it is today without investing in myself in this way.

My friend Dan Miller gave a keynote about this very topic at a conference I attended and did a whole podcast episode called “Your success is guaranteed – if you do this”  Here’s the link to it –

He suggests investing 3% of your income back into yourself and once you hit $50,000 per year to bump that number up to 5%.

So for example if you’re making $50,000 per year that would equate to $2500 per year or $208 per month.  For $2500 you could easily attend 1 or 2 conferences or book a coaching package with someone.

Dan says “See this as “investing” not “spending.”  If you purchase a 65″ TV you just spent that money, and your expense is depreciating every minute.  If you “invest” in yourself through a course that opens the door to a new opportunity, that investment can go up in value from the minute you begin.”

Shoot me an email ( if you need some advice on where you might invest in yourself.  I’ve been doing this for a while and have gone through many courses and programs.  I’d be happy to help.

7 Steps to Realizing your Dreams

This past weekend I was in Indiana for my first ever Streams of Income Live Event.  I am thrilled with how well it went.  We had over 30 people in small town Pendleton, Indiana!

On Sunday I had the privilege of speaking at the church I went to when I lived in Indiana.  I felt lead to talk about how to realize your dreams.  The 7 steps below is a summary of that message.

I hope it blesses you!

7 Steps to Realizing your Dreams

1) Know who you are in Christ

Too many people never realize their dreams because they disqualify

themselves.  They feel like because of who they are or because of the

mistakes they’ve made that they’re not worthy of living their dreams and that God could never use them.

This is a HUGE lie!

Or maybe thoughts like these below have crept into your head…

Who are you to dream big? No one in your family has ever amounted to anything.

You have always been a failure

Recognize these for what they are – lies.

You are the righteousness of God in Christ (Romans 5:21).  You are a child of the most high God!

There is NOTHING that can disqualify you from fulfilling God’s call on your life and living your dreams!

2) Get a Vision for your Life

This might look different for you, but the best way for me to get a vision for my life is to pray and get quiet.
The ideas I’ve received during these prayerful quiet times have been the best ones.

3) Write down the Vision

Habakkuk 2:2 says “Write the vision”
I have a journal where I write things down from my prayer time.  Many times these things get implemented in my business.
For some things I go one step further and put it on my vision board.
For example….I have the desire to do more speaking events like I did this past weekend.  I feel it’s something I’m called to do.  So I found a picture of a guy speaking in front of a large crowd and this is on my vision board among many other things.
And…I look at my vision board every day.

4) Take Action

It’s not enough to just write your dreams down.  You must take action on those dreams.
I believe that many people miss God’s plan for their lives because it’s

disguised as work.
You probably won’t know every single step you should take.  Just take the first one.
Then the next.  Then the next.
With action comes clarity.

5) Don’t Rely on your Own Efforts

In 1 Corinthians 15:10 Paul says “ But by the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not [found to be] for nothing (fruitless and without effect). In fact, I worked

harder than all of them [the apostles], though it was not really I, but the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God which was with me.”

“Hustle” is a word you hear a lot in business. I know not everyone that uses this word means it this way, but what typically comes to my mind when I hear “hustle” is work 18 hour days, sacrifice family time, and work some more and that it’s all up to me to make it happen.

I could never ever do what I do without the grace of God.  St. Augustine said “Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though

everything depended on you.”

The more I rely on His grace (unmerited favor) the more doors of

opportunity open for me.

6) Surround Yourself with Dream Cheerleaders

Not everyone is going to be your biggest fan and believe you can realize your dreams.  Limit your time with those folks or distance yourself

You are on a mission and can’t afford to be de-railed by naysayers who don’t get the vision.
Find those people that cheer you on and hang out with them.

7) Consistency is Key

It’s easy to start, but harder to finish.
Small consistent effort over a long period of time produces massive results.
Keep doing the work – over and over and over again.

Go get your dreams!!!

Just Get Started

Me and my business partner Jenni Hunt were on a brainstorming call with a client this week and when asked what else we could do for her she said “I just need to get started.”

Many people I talk to struggle with the how of getting started…they analyze it too much and never take action.  Or they aren’t really sure what to do first.

I heard a quote from Carl Jung recently that said “If the path before you is clear, you’re probably on someone else’s.”

Rich Litvin, author of The Prosperous Coach says “Stop waiting for clarity.  Clarity can be useful before you begin. But you don’t need it. Take one tiny step. And then the next. And then the next. You’ll be surprised at what you accomplish.”

My family and I had the privilege of traveling to the UK back in May of last year and we toured the Arundel Castle.  Inside the castle are some very long, winding staircases in which you can’t see the top while standing at the bottom.  Our business journey and even our life journey is sometimes like that winding staircase.  You just take one small step after one small step until you reach the top.

I’ve hosted many live events over the past several years, but this weekend is my very first Streams of Income Live event.  I’ve had it on my heart for several years now to do an event on this topic.  So I’m just stepping out and being obedient.  I believe that the Lord is going to send the people there that need to be there.

I’m not going to have a huge crowd and that’s okay.  If I can help just one person re-ignite those dreams inside of them it will have been worth it.

What is on your heart to do?

There’s never going to be a perfect time.  You just need to take action and get started.

My very first live event was at my home several years ago.  The reason I did that was to keep the expenses down, but also to be very honest I had no idea if anyone would come.  And if no one showed up, no one but me and my wife would know.  Ha!

Thankfully I did have 7 people fly from all over the country to come to my house for a day and a half event.  But had I been too nervous to try that first one I wouldn’t be doing the one this weekend.

So again I ask….what is it on your heart to do?

Please take action on it because the world needs the gifts you have.

How can I help you get started?

Launch Your MVP

In the sports world “MVP” means “Most Valuable Player.”  In the online business world we call it “Minimum Viable Product.”

We live in the greatest time in history of the world to be an entrepreneur.

Why do I say that?

Because in this age of the internet you don’t have to put together a fancy business plan and risk your entire life savings to start a business.

I love teaching people how to create multiple streams of income using the internet and what’s so cool is that every single one of these strategies can be launched with very little and sometimes no monetary investment at all!!  And several can be launched with zero experience!

Even though it’s easy to start a business sometimes I see students of mine making the mistake of thinking everything has to be perfect to launch that course, publish that book, or test that new product.  Well….there’s never going to be a perfect time and your product isn’t going to do anyone any good if it never gets off the ground.

My friend and New York Times best-selling author of the book 48 Days to the Work you Love, Dan Miller preaches not to wait until everything’s perfect.  He says that done is better than perfect every time.  In fact, his first version of 48 Days to the Work you Love was printed at Kinko’s and was held together by spiral binding.  Now that’s a minimum viable product!
If Dan had waited until he had a publishing deal his book may have never made it past his own hard drive.

What is it that you’re “waiting for the perfect time” to do?

I challenge you…..just launch it in MVP form.  You can always make changes later.

The world needs what you have to offer.  Get it done and out the door!

The Big 3

Do you have a long list of To-dos that seem to never get done or just never seem to move the needle in your business?  This tip below will help.

I’m a student of productivity.  I’m always looking for ways to improve how I work.

This one tip has made a huge impact on my business and it’s this….

Focus on your Big 3

What’s the “Big 3?”

It’s the 3 things that you MUST accomplish today no matter what.  What are the 3 things that will move your business forward the most today?

It most likely won’t be something like organizing your mail or scrolling through Facebook.
If you’re selling physical products online it might be calling on a wholesale account or getting out a shipment.
If you’re working on building your personal brand it might be writing a blog post or going live in your Facebook group.

Whatever your Big 3 is they need to be the 3 most important things that will make the most impact on your business.  Too often we get distracted with the fires that start and we never make progress on the important things that will really help us reach our goals.

So make it a practice to write down (either the night before or the morning) your 3 most important tasks and just focus on those.

The rest either can wait, can be delegated, or don’t need to be done at all.

Even Knuckleheads Can Do This!

Are you a knucklehead?

Probably not, but even if you were you can build an online business.

My radio guest this week is my good friend Karl Jacobi and he says that when he started his business he was a complete knucklehead – making tons of mistakes.

I’ve definitely made my share of mistakes and had my knucklehead moments.  Just ask my wife.  🙂  The important thing is that knuckleheads like Karl and I have kept going.  We’ve kept learning and taking action.

When I asked Karl what he would do if he had to start over again he said he would

……start selling items from around his home

……source books because they’re inexpensive and have high profit

……re-invest that money into replenishables (items that sell over and over again)

……get into the Amazon Legends group, develop relationships, and soak up the content

He cautioned, however, to soak up just one piece of the business at a time.  It’s so easy to get what we call shiny object syndrome and “hop around like a little squirrel.”

His advice is to get one part of the business going successfully, automate it and outsource it which will allow you to move on to something else.  Then rinse and repeat the process.

Karl just recently quit his job because of the success in his business and he credits much of his success to what he learned in the Amazon Legends group.

I want more success stories like Karl so I invite you to follow his advice and try out the Legends group.

Your Blueprint for Multiple Streams of Income

I’m for sure not a contractor, but I know that when they build a house they have a plan…a blueprint.  A different contractor can come along and follow that same blueprint and build the same house.

The process I have used to create over 16 different streams of income is totally duplicatable using the blueprint I’ve included in this email below.

So many entrepreneurs are just trying to make ends meet so they jump from one “low hanging fruit” to the next, duct taping the
strategies together.

My business partner Jenni Hunt and I bring a process to the madness and show that it is not only possible, but it is profitable, to build out multiple income streams around your interests, knowledge and/or passion.

As you start the new year, it’s time to take action.  Let’s make 2020 the year that you step out of your comfort zone and make it happen.

You can have flexibility and build something around what you’re passionate and knowledgeable about while serving an audience well AND creating an income.

We’ve seen it over and over again and I am convinced it can happen for you as well.

If you are ready to bolt down your business and focus on building a business that you enjoy and that serves an audience well, where there is community and offers the lifestyle you need or want to live, now is the time.  We are launching a new mentoring program to help you take action.

As a mentoring student you will:

– Have access to the M-A-S-T-E-R Training material
– Enjoy a private mentoring community on Facebook
– Engage in a monthly Office Hour Hang Out
– Learn from a monthly training webinar
– Discover opportunities for joint ventures and rev share
– Have exclusive access to our retreats and events
(first event is in San Diego, February 2020!)
–  And more!

Learn more and jump into the program here –

Want to really kick it into high gear?  There’s an opportunity to join Jenni and I in our new exclusive Inner Circle Program where you’ll receive some hand holding for accountability and guidance to put your blueprint into action.  Go to

Let’s make 2020 our best year yet!

Are Goals Even for Me?

Do you ever get frustrated with goals?

Over the years I’ve set goals and failed to meet them and then felt like setting goals wasn’t for me.  Can you relate to that?

I was encouraged to hear that I’m not the only one so I recorded a radio show with 3 of my friends that have 3 different approaches.

That’s right…there’s not just one way to do it.

The common thread that runs through each of the approaches is taking action.  Just do those daily tasks that move you forward and you’ll get to your goals anyway.

In 2020 I’m going to focus more on each quarter than the whole year.  Sometimes I get tripped up with setting only annual goaIs. I put those things off because I have the whole year to get it done.  Then November rolls around and I’m no closer to that goal than I was on January 1.

Does that sound familiar?

So here’s my new easy way approach with goals as I start 2020:

1) Focus on Quarter 1 (January – March)
2) Write something down
3) Take daily action
4) Review and revise
5) Be open to new opportunity

Rather than just say “Goals aren’t for me” and not doing them at all I’m going to set some goals (in pencil) for quarter 1.  I’m going to focus more on those daily tasks that I need to be doing because I know that it’s those tasks over and over that will move me forward.

I’m going to review my goals often and revise as needed.  And lastly I’m going to be open to new opportunities that might appear that could end up being a priority for that quarter.  My radio show is a great example of that.  Having my own radio show was certainly not one of my goals this past year.  It wasn’t even on my radar, but the opportunity came along and I was able to take advantage of it.

So be encouraged, my friend, and let’s make 2020 our best year yet!

We Just Want Things to Stay the Same But Get Better

Man wouldn’t this be great………for things to be able to stay the same but get better?

Change is not comfortable.  Staying in our comfort zone is, but as my friend Tyson Priest says in his new book Delta to Victor “Nothing good comes from comfort zones.”

People who change the world must get used to change.

What do you want your life/business to look like one year from now?  Chances are it will require some type of change to make it happen, but the good news is it might not require a massive change.

Usually what our like looks like on December 30 is the result of small choices we make throughout the year.  For example losing weight might require something as simple as just cutting out sugary drinks.  Adding a new income stream in your business might require outsourcing something you’re currently doing to free up your time.

If looking at the big result you need seems daunting then just focus on the small tasks and changes that will get you there.  Do that day after day and the big result will automatically happen.

18 Streams of Income?!?!

In a recent Facebook post my friend Jenni Hunt revealed that she had about 18 different streams of income.  It has got quite a bit of engagement as people are wondering how in the world she has done that.

When you hear this or when someone takes a screenshot of their sales and it’s some ungodly number you aren’t anywhere close to, you either are motivated because “if they can do it, so can I” or it deflates you and makes you feel like a failure for not performing to their level.

My encouragement to you is run your own race.  STOP comparing your business or even your life to someone else’s.  You don’t know their situation.  Maybe they don’t have a full time job like you do or maybe they’re not homeschooling 4 kids like you are.

Now I’m not saying that you should find excuses if your business is not where you want it to be or if you’re not putting in the work.  I’m saying stop looking at what others have and are doing and focus on you.  You can do this!!!

Now back to Jenni’s 18 different streams of income…..we’re not talking about a list that looks like this:

1) Selling on Amazon
2) Running a Daycare
3) Mowing lawns on the weekend
4) Hanging Christmas Lights for neighbors
5) Fitness Trainer

The above don’t complement each other at all.  While you could build out streams of income that have nothing to do with each other, it’s MUCH easier to take one skill or one theme and create multiple streams from that.

For example, let’s say you make the best paleo desserts (no dairy, no gluten, no sugar) that people who don’t necessarily eat that way wouldn’t even realize they don’t have all the other stuff in them.  Melane buys desserts like this from a local small business owner.  I’ve talked to this girl about how she could take her skill and create new streams of income from it.

What would you tell her?

Here are some of the ideas I gave her…

  1. Recipe Book
  2. Course on how to bake paleo desserts
  3. Blog
  4. Youtube Channel with instructional videos
  5. Private label her own paleo ingredients

This is a tiny list.  There are so many opportunities out there to take one skill or one piece of content and create multiple streams of income.

Is this something you want to do?

My friend Jenni and I can help.  Go to for more information on how we want to help you turn your passion into profits.

2020?!?!? Are you Kidding Me?

Just saying the year 2020 makes me think of the Jetsons cartoon that I used to watch as a kid, but where are all the flying cars and the robots that should be cleaning my house for me?  🙂

I may still have to load our dishwasher, but I’m excited about a new year.  It’s like a fresh start.

These last few weeks of the year are a perfect time to be thinking about what you want 2020 to look like.

Can I be honest with you?

I’ve read so many books about goal setting and achieving goals, being productive and focused yet I’ve failed so many times.

I find myself being busy, but not always on the most important work.  I work from home and I wouldn’t change that for anything, but having a toddler clamoring for my attention at all times makes it challenging to get things done.

Over the years I’ve set goals and failed to meet them and then felt like setting goals wasn’t for me.

But I can go back into my journal and see where I’ve written down some pretty major things and I’m living out right now what I wrote in my journal.  So I’m not a complete failure.  🙂
I will always be a student of how to be more productive because time is precious and I think setting goals is important, but I no longer let it bother me if I fall short.  Because as I look back over the last 11 years of having my own business I can clearly see that I’ve progressed  Business is better than it was and I’m doing work that I love.

So let me encourage you if you feel like you’ve been a failure at setting goals.  Your goals can be in pencil which means they can be revised.  The important thing is to write something down, take action on it, and review those goals often.  If 3 months down the road you need to change the goal do it and don’t feel bad about it.  Just keep moving forward daily on those actions that will move your business forward.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Is it Really?

I love the holidays.  I love looking at the Christmas tree that my wife Melane has decorated (yes…already).

I love turning on my radio the day after Thanksgiving because that’s when my favorite radio station starts playing Christmas music.

I love listening to more Christmas music when I get dragged into a store with Melane.

Christmas, the holidays and especially Christmas music has the same joyful affect on many people as it does me, but not everyone has the same response.

According to this article from the Cleveland Clinic “how we react to early Christmas tunes has a lot to do with what our brains associate with the holiday season.  For people who’ve had great Christmases, full of celebration and good feelings when they were young, they’re going to be more welcoming of all the cues that go on with Christmas — and Christmas music is one of those really powerful cues.  On the flip side, if someone has difficult memories associated with the holidays, hearing music that is associated with this time of year may bring back some not-so-pleasant feelings.”

I pray about what to write in these emails.  I don’t outsource this task in my business.  To me this weekly email is important because it gives me a chance to speak encouragement into your life.  You might get beat down all week and I want this to always be a breath of fresh air, but my words alone have no affect.  That’s why I pray because I want His words to fill this page.  His words can change your life.

For some of you this might be the first holiday season without a loved one.

You might be going through some hard stuff which is overshadowing the holidays and making them seem less than joyful.

The Lord wants you to know that He sees what you’re going through, He loves you and He’s right there with you.  He’s your loving Heavenly Father and He wants you to enjoy this Holiday season.

I’m a big believer in the power of prayer so how can I be praying for you?
I don’t just say this to fill up space in my email.  I have a Trello board with names of people who have written to me with prayer requests and I pray for these people by name.  I’d be honored to add you to this list.  Just hit reply and let me know how I can be praying for you.

One tip I’ll leave you with that has helped me a lot when circumstances are trying to get me down…be thankful.

Rather than focus on the difficult things be thankful for the good things in your life.  We all have a lot to be thankful for.

Check out this funny, but powerful video that went viral that expresses this truth well –

Fill in the Blank: ______ are the Fuel of Business

Hard work?

These are all good things and much needed in a successful business, but I believe the answer is……

My friend and mentor Jim Cockrum said in his most recent podcast episode that “Business is fueled by relationships.
Relationships are fueled by connections and conversation.  The most
powerful connection and conversation you will ever have is in person.  The next best thing is the greatest communication tool we’ve ever been given which is the internet using voice, face and connecting that way. That’s
going to fuel your business.”

When I look at my business and all the streams of income I have I can point back to a relationship or person that helped create that or that I created with another person.

Selling physical products online can be traced back to a desire that was planted in me after reading Jim Cockrum’s book Silent Sales Machine.
In 2012 you might recall that I won an auction that Jim conducted on eBay.  As a result of that my wife and I were blessed to have lunch with him.  That lunch kicked off a friendship that exists to this day and has been
responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue (maybe more) on projects we have partnered on.
What fueled all that?  A relationship.

In 2014 I met Jenni Hunt at CES II, a conference for e-commerce sellers.  We became friends and that relationship lead to us creating Private Label the Easy Way (Proven Private Label) mentoring program for private label sellers and more recently a program called the Master Plan of Influence where we help people turn their passion into a stream of income.

The Amazon Legends group that I co-founded back in 2016 came about after meeting and getting to know my buddy Danny Stock.

In Jim’s recent episode he says that if you’ll connect with just 5 people per week using the internet (Skype or Zoom not email), phone or in person your business will explode.

Opportunities will present themselves.  If you’re talking to a customer you’ll learn their pain points and find new ways to serve them.
If you talk to a local business you might find out what’s holding them back from going to the next level.  Maybe you can help.

If you talk to a fellow e-commerce seller you’ll learn what’s working in their business right now.  Maybe you can implement that in your business.

It sounds so simple yet most people don’t do it.  In this age of text
messages and email it’s too easy to sit behind a computer and not make meaningful connections with people.
Pretend it’s 1982 and meet someone for coffee or pick up the phone and call them and ask them this question I learned from Jim also…..

“What are you working on and how can I help?”

Or as my friend Brian Dixon says “What are you working through?”

This will get them talking about their current challenges and/or current projects and who knows you just might have the answer they’re looking for.  For sure, though, you’re building a relationship with that person and that’s priceless.

From Chaos to Clarity

Endless to do lists.

Social Media.

Shiny objects.

A crying toddler 🙂

All of these and more can contribute to chaos in our lives.  When things are chaotic we’re just surviving not thriving.

My friend Mariane Renner, this week’s podcast guest and author of the book Chaos to Clarity says “Chaos is the biggest thief in our lives.  It robs us of our goals, our dreams, our true purpose, and of living the lives we were meant to live.”

When chaos is present we may be busy but we’re usually busy with distractions.

So how do we break the cycle of chaos?  Marianne says we need to get focused on our purpose.

We have to know our why.  When we have clarity of purpose we’ll be directed to the next right action and cut through the chaos.

Doing the next right action means we’re not busy with those distractions and we’ll be moving our business forward.

Step Out of your Comfort Zone and Into your Calling

Yesterday I had the privilege of chatting with a gentleman who wrote a fiction book and he was wondering how to get the word out about it and to create a stream of income from it.

Like any product or service you have, you want to find out who your ideal audience is and where they hang out – online and even offline.  His book has a message behind it so one idea I had for him was to find events he could speak at.  He basically said that it would be outside his comfort zone to do that.  I told him that I totally empathize with him and began to explain what has really helped me in this area because much of what I do is or at one time was outside of my comfort zone.

I was praying about this one time and sensed the Lord telling me that the message I have is not about me.  It’s His message and I’m just the messenger.  For me it’s way more comfortable to talk about someone else and what they’re doing so the idea of having to promote me is just not something I like to do.
So when I learned that I’m only the messenger, that totally took the
pressure off and made me more comfortable sharing and promoting this message that’s on my heart.

Is there something on your heart that you know has been placed there by the Lord?  Don’t hold back in fear of being seen as self-promoting.  It’s not about you.  It’s not about me.  It’s about Him and the message He wants to use you to bring to the world.  Allow yourself to be used by Him.

Get over any anxiety you have about it and just get the job done.

Write that book.

Start that blog.

Whatever it is….get it done.

The world needs it.

“You Make it Seem so Effortless”

Yesterday I was blessed with the opportunity to meet with a friend and chat with him about how to take his love and knowledge of baseball and turn it into a business.

Was I working?  Yes.

Was I having fun?  Yes.

I feel like one of my gifts is helping people see opportunity…helping them figure out how to take something they’re passionate about and turn it into streams of income.  I absolutely love the brainstorming process and watching as the light bulbs go off in their heads and they also see the hundred dollar bills floating around in the air.

When I’m in meetings or calls like this I feel like I’m in what my friend Dan Miller calls the Zone of Genius.  It’s that place where you’re able to use those unique abilities God has placed within you and you feel fulfilled.

As I was thinking about what to write in this email, I was reminded of a chapter in my book Finding your Grace Place.  (You can get it for free here –

That chapter is called “Effortless” and it was referring to a compliment that I received from a colleague about how I run my business.

I work hard, but like yesterday’s meeting with my friend it doesn’t often feel like work.  I was playing in my Zone of Genius or what I call in my book my Grace Place.

1 Corinthians 15:10 sheds some light on this:

“But by the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not [found to be] for nothing (fruitless and without effect). In fact, I worked harder than all of them [the apostles], though it was not really I, but the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God which was with me.”

It was the grace of God working through me and I was in my grace zone. When you’re doing something you’re good at and you’re graced for, it’s fun.

In contrast, when you’re not good at something it’s no fun at all.

Where’s your Grace Place or your Zone of Genius?  Spend more time there.  When you step into what God has called you to do and you’re relying on His grace, you can’t help but to change the world around you by His grace which is flowing through you.

Others will describe your life as effortless and you’ll just smile and say “It’s the Grace of God.”

The Key to Overcoming what’s Holding you Back

If you think of your life as a movie what genre would it be?

I know we all have times when it might be a comedy or times when things aren’t going well or you’re going through some difficult times and you would call it a horror show.  But if you had to select one genre that sums up what your life has been so far what would it be?

My podcast guest this week is my good friend Christie Hertzler.  Several years ago Christie was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  Much like an actor in a movie Christie didn’t choose that script.  She could have continued to play the actor role and let that script play out for her.  No one would fault her if she let that diagnosis define her life and she made that an excuse for why she couldn’t build a business.  Rather Christie took the role of producer and writer and re-wrote the script of her life.  So instead of sitting at home feeling sorry for herself she started an Amazon business and now has multiple streams of income.

Life isn’t always fair and you might be dealing with some serious things that could hold you back from what God has called you to do.  I encourage you….re-write your script.  I believe that what the enemy meant for your harm, God will turn into something good.  Your mess will become your message.  That horror movie will turn into an inspiring story of someone (you) who overcame what life threw at them and built an incredible business and life.

Here’s a short clip from my interview with Christie that will inspire you –

How to Stop Chasing the Squirrels

Do you sometimes feel like the hunting dog that gets distracted by every squirrel it sees?

I know I do.

You take a course and jump in with both feet like the dog that has just been unleashed into the woods, but a squirrel runs right in front of you and you get distracted and start chasing the squirrel instead.  Even worse there are scads of squirrels all over the place and you want to chase them all.  Can you relate?

The good news is everywhere you look you see opportunity.  The bad news is everywhere you look you see opportunity and you let it take your focus off of what you need to be doing.  This is a common ailment in the age of the internet we’re living in.  There is definitely opportunity everywhere which is crazy exciting.  There are so many ways to make money online and while many of them are really good ideas only a few are the right ideas for you.

Fortunately, there is a cure for this ailment that we call Shiny Object

Syndrome and I’m going to give it to you right now.

All you need is a pair of glasses.  Let me explain……

Earlier this week I carved out some time in the morning to pray and think about my business.  I wrote down the things I really enjoy doing and I thought about who the ideal person is I’m trying to serve.

For my ideal tasks I thought about whether they get me closer to my overall goals or farther away.  For example, I value my free time.  I never want to be the guy that works 12 hour days at the expense of my family.  So through that lens I look at potential opportunities and the tasks that need to get done in my business.

This is the cure to Shiny Object Syndrome….getting a clear focus on what you’re trying to accomplish and evaluating opportunity through that lens.  Hence, put on your glasses.

What are your ultimate goals?

What do you enjoy doing?  Try to do more of that.

Who is your ideal audience?

I’m sure there are other questions that you can ask yourself to filter

opportunities through, but the important thing is to put on your glasses.

Get a clear focus of what you’re trying to accomplish and your why of doing it.  Then those opportunities (shiny objects) that don’t fit will be much easier to say no to.

Hit by a Truck and Shot in the Chest But His Business Still Thrives

My friend Benji shouldn’t even be alive.

In May of 2018 while sitting in traffic he was hit from behind by an 18-wheeler going over 50 mph.  It knocked him and his truck ¼ mile through a power line pole and a fence.  If that wasn’t bad enough he suffered a ladder to the back of his head causing a skull fracture and a brain hemorrhage which resulted in 5 days in ICU and 6 full months out of work.

It’s a miracle that he survived.  That accident would have been enough excitement for most people, but Benji “decided” to get accidentally shot in the chest in February of this year.
He and some friends were on a guys trip in Georgia and Benji took a 40 caliber hollow point dead center to his chest.  At the time they were at a state park a full hour away from the hospital.

This accident resulted in a 28 day stay in the hospital 3-1/2 hours away from home.

For most folks accidents like this would result in severe financial stress due to missing so much work, but because Benji and Angie had built up their Amazon business it continued to pay the bills while Angie was able to nurse him back to health.

About 4 years ago they started with $300 and have grown their business to where they’ll hit about $400,000 in sales for 2019!

You can listen to the rest of Benji’s story in the most recent podcast episode here –

Hopefully you don’t have to endure a severe car crash and a gunshot to the chest, but I do want you to be like Benji and have a business that can allow you to take time off (not in the ICU, though) and it still pay the bills.

It took Benji and Angie 4 years to get to where they are now.  2023 will come no matter what.  It’s up to you what your business looks like when it does.  Will you be wishing you took action now or will you be at $400,000 in sales?

It’s up to you.

The Super Secret Key to Knowing EXACTLY What to Sell

“You look like you want a spicy chicken sandwich with fries and a lemonade”

Is that what you hear when you’re greeted by a friendly Chick-fil-a employee?

No.  What do they or any other fast food restaurant employee say instead?

Yes……”How may I help you?”

My VAs (Virtual Assistants) from the Philippines are here this week for our Amazon Legends Family Reunion (that’s what we call our conferences) and I introduced them to Chick-fil-a for the first time.  You’re welcome, Zech and Rain!  🙂

So what’s the super secret way to find out what your customers want?

In my interview with photographer Katie Lamb she talks about how

listening to her audience lead the way to creating multiple streams of income.

(You can listen to her episode here –
Katie is in a business in which in order to make more money she has to book more sessions or work more hours.  She’s already swamped being a mom of almost 4 year old twins so she needed to do something differently.

Rather than guess at what her audience might want she started listening and engaging with them.  She now makes money through her course, coaching, and even brand sponsorships.

Do you need to create multiple streams of income?
Find a group to serve, ASK them what they need, and fill it.  No guessing involved.
