From 36,000 Feet and the Business Book that has Influenced Me the Most

I’m writing this from an airplane at an altitude 36,000 feet as I’m headed to Portland, Oregon to co-host the first TAG (Take Action Group) Seminar with my good friend Jenni Hunt. If you’re going to be near Portland on Monday there is still time to sign up, but that’s not the reason for this email.

From up this high everything on the ground looks so small. Even the largest skyscrapers look like a toy. It’s all about perspective.

So what am I trying to say? Look at the bigger, positive picture. When you’re having a slow sales day or when an angry customer posts some bad feedback or when any number of things happen that are discouraging look at what is going right. It’s so easy to look at the negative things, but what is going right that you can be thankful for?

For me some of the positive things are:

  • God has blessed me with an amazing wife
  • My commute every day is to my office that is maybe 50 feet from our bedroom
  • I love the work I do that it often doesn’t even seem like work
  • I’m healthy
  • We live in a beautiful home in an area we love

I’m preaching to myself here now too. I encourage you to look at what is right in your life instead of what is wrong. Look at what you have and resist focusing on what you don’t have. Don’t compare your business to someone else that has been doing it for much longer than you. Be thankful that you aren’t where you were when you started. If you’re just getting started, be thankful that you have the freedom to start a business.

And if you’re thinking about starting a business or haven’t got this book yet, Silent Sales Machine is FREE until Monday. It is the book that got me started and it’s author, Jim Cockrum, has been the most influential person in my business.  Grab it here.

Real Wholesale Sources Version 2, Why I Love Private Label, and Why You Should Write a Book

Are you interested in wholesale?

I wrote a book last year called Real Wholesale Sources that sold thousands of copies. In it is a list of over 200 legitimate wholesale companies that you can purchase from for your Amazon, eBay, or even offline business. I recently updated it and have re-launched the 2nd version. You can get it for only $9.99 here.
———————
You might think Private Label is a scary proposition, but in a book I’ll be launching within the next several weeks I’ll show you that it’s not.
Can you imagine having a product that brings in a consistent $10,000 to $20,000 in sales every month or more? What if you had 3 or 4 products like that? How would it change your business?
These numbers are very realistic and I’ll be showing you how we found an easier way to do private label products.
———————
It sounds like all I do is write books. The truth is I wish I had more time to devote to writing.
There has never been an easier time than now to get a book published. Here are some reasons why you should consider writing a book:

1) Become a leader in your niche which opens up many other opportunities.
2) Extra income. Who doesn’t like that?
3) It’s fun to say you’re an author.

I’m sure there are many more reasons, but I challenge you to think of some topics that you could be an “expert” on. Do you have a topic you’d like to write about, but need some encouragement or advice? Shoot me an email at ryan@ryanreger.com and I’ll help in any way I can.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

December has been a crazy month with sourcing and getting inventory into Amazon for the busiest shopping season of the year

I’m just now having a chance to relax a little bit after working so hard. My main piece of advice is just that – take some time to relax and enjoy this holiday season. Sometimes it’s so hard as entrepreneurs to “shut it off”. If you’re like me you’re always thinking about business ideas and what you need to be doing to run your business. Resist the temptation to work unless you need to use it as an excuse to get away from some crazy family members 🙂

As a Christmas gift to anyone that doesn’t have Beyond Arbitrage, John Bullard Sr and I have reduced the price to $9.99 on Amazon Kindle through this weekend. The book normally sells for $29.99.

Here’s the link to it on Amazon – http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OPCW8FE

I pray that this next year will be your best yet!

Ryan

Q4 is Here! Are you Ready?

If you sell physical goods then Q4 is the most thrilling adventure you’ll experience. It seems like anything that’s not nailed down will sell in the last quarter of the year.

Are you ready?

Here are just a few tips I wanted to share about being prepared for Q4:

  • Make sure you have plenty of supplies now – Packing Tape, Boxes, etc
  • I only buy items that I can make money on if they sold now. I’m not buying items hoping that they will be going up in value later.
  • Now is not the time to change your business model. Go with what you know, but don’t be afraid to scan items in categories you’re not completely familiar with. If you’re not selling toys, Q4 is the time to get into toys for sure.
  • Be on the lookout for anything seasonal – It seems like anything with the word “Pumpkin” in it sells and as we get closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas keep your eyes open for items that only come out during those holidays.
  • Get help with the processing, packing, and shipping – I’m sure there are plenty of people that live near you that would love to make some extra Christmas money.
  • Source Source Source – This needs to be the main focus
  • Refresh your Amazon Seller Central often to watch your sales – I’m sure the experts would say don’t waste too much of your time doing this, but it’s fun and it motivates me when I see the sales coming in.

Nuggets from the CES II Conference and Beyond Arbitrage

I’ve been quiet over the last several weeks. The main reason is I was working on a book called Beyond Arbitrage. I’ll touch on that in a minute, but I wanted to give you a nugget or two from Jim Cockrum’s CES Conference this past weekend.

Rabbi Daniel Lapin quoting from the book of Genesis said that it’s not good for man to be alone. In the context of your business this can mean several things, but one interpretation is: Don’t do this business by yourself.

I have talked about this before, but it’s so important. If you’re selling physical products online 90% of the general public (maybe more) don’t get what you do. That means that maybe even your closest friends and relatives have no idea what your business is about.

So what’s the solution? Community. That can be as simple as joining some Facebook groups like MySilentTeam or ScanPower, but in my opinion there’s nothing like being a part of a mastermind group where you get to know each other personally and help each other’s businesses grow.

The other piece of advice is: Take action on one thing right away.

Many times going to a conference or taking a course you may feel overwhelmed with good ideas and information to implement. Don’t try to implement every good idea all at once. Take one idea and work on that.

Beyond Arbitrage

John Bullard Sr and I just released our new book called Beyond Arbitrage.

If you’re ready to take your business to the next level then this book is for you.

We’ll teach you:

  •  Everything about wholesale inventory from how to find it and what you’ll need to buy it

  •  The exact process that John uses to prepare for a trade show

  •  Exactly what to say and not to say to a vendor at a trade show

  •  Other sources of wholesale inventory you might not expect

  •  How to outsource your inventory sourcing

  •  How to find inventory for 50-75% off wholesale!!

  •  How wholesale sourcing can open up doors of inventory and incredible opportunities including but not limited to closeoutsexclusives, and private label opportunities

My Email to a Frustrated Seller

I received an email from a fellow seller that is feeling a bit frustrated with his business. We’ve all been there so I thought that some of my comments to him might encourage others as well.

Here they are:

Don’t give up.

There is so much inventory out there that it’s not worth dealing with the low profit, high competition items.  Here are some quick ideas I have.  If any of these aren’t a fit for you then just ignore them.  🙂

– Continue what you’re doing but differentiate yourself.  If you have a high competition item that sells well then create your own multi-pack or bundle.  Let’s say you’re selling a popular health/beauty item.  Make it a 2 or 3 pack and own the listing for a while.  Or bundle it with something hard for other sellers to find like a special coffee mug with a bag of coffee or a gift bag with a set of lotions.

– Wholesale – I love buying wholesale because once I find a good selling item it is replenishable.  The same strategies with bundling and multi-packs can be applied here.

– Thrift store, garage sales – The profits from this type of inventory is remarkable.  Buying items for $2 and $3 and selling them for $20, $30, and $40 is not unheard of.

– Consignment – Find a friend or family member that will give you their items to sell and split the profits with them.  This means no out of pocket expense for you.

Also, if you’re in a position where you need to be at a certain profit amount per month quickly I would say there is nothing wrong with getting a part time job or doing something else to make ends meet while building this business.  This is not a get rich quick business and you definitely don’t want to put pressure on yourself to make it happen in a certain amount of time.  Obviously the more money you have to invest the faster it can build up, but I know many sellers that started with $500 and have 6 and 7 figure businesses now.

I don’t want to oversimplify this business, but it is pretty simple – Find inventory that is selling for more on Amazon, ship it in, repeat.

Most of all, don’t give up.  If it takes you longer to build it than someone else – who cares?  The fact that you started and took the leap is commendable.  Most people are content to work their 9-5 jobs and have no desire or drive to build a business.  You have done that.  And because you’re reaching out for help means you want to succeed.  I guarantee you that you can do this.  Just keep doing what you know and the other piece of advice I like to give other sellers is don’t build this business alone.

There are plenty of free communities on Facebook and elsewhere that you can network with other sellers and get questions answered.  My favorite Facebook group is https://www.facebook.com/groups/mysilentteam/

I hope I’ve helped you in some way or at least encouraged you.

Don’t Ever Give Up!

dontgiveup

I know there are times in your business when sales are slow or it seems like finding good inventory is difficult and you question whether you should continue. Those are the times when you have to remember why you’re doing this business. If you don’t have a “why” get a “why”.

There will be challenges, but you can and must push on and press on.

You can reach your goals and have your dreams!

The 2 pieces of practical advice I want to share (and you’ve heard these many many times before):

1. Write down your goals and break those goals down into daily to do lists.

2. Get in a community of like-minded individuals. Don’t do this business alone. I highly recommend the FREE Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/mysilentteam/

That’s all for today.  🙂

Wholesale Help for International Sellers

I have been getting a lot of questions from sellers outside the US about how to purchase wholesale products and have them sent to Amazon.com.

As you probably know, wholesalers require a sales tax permit and that can only be acquired if you have a business in the US.

After some research, I found a company that can help you get a US business established so that you can apply for a state sales tax permit and order wholesale products. That company is incorporate.com.  My friend, Barrington McIntosh, used them to set up his US business.

Once you have your business established and have a resale tax certificate you can start placing wholesale orders. If you don’t already have someone in the US to accept your shipments for you, I highly recommend MyInventoryTeam.com. They will receive your inventory, prepare it, and send it to Amazon for you.

I wish there was an easier way to get around the sales tax certificate requirement, but I haven’t come across one.

MM8 Conference Recap

“Awesome”

“Next Level”

“Life Changing”

These are some of the words the attendees used to describe the MM8 Conference that me and my mastermind buddies hosted this past week in Dallas.

We are truly deeply humbled to hear that kind of feedback.

Two of them told us that they could have gone home after lunch on the very first day because they got their money’s worth.

I know the content was good. I learned a lot myself. But the true gem of the whole conference was the interaction between everyone and the fact that they are not going home alone.

We organized them into groups that will communicate together long after the conference ended. Many of them told us that they have been to other conferences, but that when they got home reality hit them and they didn’t take action on what they learned.

Also, when you have a bad sales day or something negative happens you need to be able to lean on like-minded individuals who understand what you do and who can encourage you. One of our participants said her friends and family don’t get what she does for a living and therefore can’t really be there to support her.

Our goal in creating groups for them is to give them a support system going forward, but also a group that can share sourcing deals they find.

This alone will pay for the cost of the event.

Imagine being able to walk into a store to source and know exactly what you’re looking for because one of your fellow group members has already found that item in their local store. That’s just one of the powers of being in a group.

So what does this mean for you?

1) This conference was so successful that we’ll be doing more so be on the lookout for those

2) Get involved in a community. If you’re not already a part of the MySilentTeam Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/mysilentteam/), get involved now. It’s totally free to join and it’s a community of like-minded individuals who can help you take your business to the next level.

Multiple Streams Continued and Expanding Internationally

Have you ever just stared at your computer not really knowing what to do in regard to your internet marketing business?

How do you know where to start?

There seem to be so many opportunities that you can become paralyzed by analyzing every possible business model. I certainly have been in this position.

In my previous post I mentioned multiple streams of income, but that you should focus on one stream and then add other streams. Stay laser focused on one until it’s at a point that you can branch off and work on others. You never know when you may need the others to be your main source of income.

My wife and I began selling furniture on Craigslist back in 2008. At the time we had zero presence on Amazon or eBay. I’m thankful that we added the Amazon and eBay streams because the Craigslist stream has completely dried up. It was our main stream for over 3 years and now it’s not even a trickle.

Today I’m earning income from streams that at one time I didn’t even know existed. Some are very small, while others are a significant source of our overall income.

Multiple Streams of Income and An Online Sourcing Opportunity

I know you have heard the term “multiple streams of income”.

In the internet marketing world some possible streams are:

  • A physical product business such as selling on Amazon and eBay
  •  Helping offline businesses get their business online
  •  Coaching other online sellers
  •  Writing and selling an e-book on a subject you’re knowledgeable about
  •  Setting yourself up as a leader in your niche, building an audience, and offering quality products to that audience

There are many more possible streams and there are streams within those streams. For example, with an Amazon business you can sell products you find at a physical retail store or online. You can also have your own private label product with your own brand.

Sound overwhelming?  It can be.

Do you prefer the Stairs or the Elevator?

(For a replay of our 16 minute Spreecast from New York City announcing our exciting news please click here – http://www.spreecast.com/events/live-from-new-york-city)

I just returned late last night from New York City where I had the opportunity to attend the Coffee Fest Trade Show with 3 of my fellow mastermind members. I firmly believe that one should not try to build your business alone and that truth is even more apparent to me now after spending just two days with them.   The ideas that were generated and the deepening friendships will easily turn out to mean increased income for me and my family.
When you can leverage each others experiences you can all go to another level.
It’s the difference between taking the elevator vs. taking the stairs. Imagine being at the Empire State Building with me and I take the elevator to the top and you take the stairs. We’re both going to make it to the top. However, I’m going to get there much faster and be much more rested when I get there. That’s the power of a group of like-minded individuals working together.
Since joining this mastermind group last fall, my business has literally EXPLODED and it would not have grown at this rate had it not been for the relationships we’ve built and the ideas we’ve shared.

I so believe in the power of getting together with like minded individuals that I want you to experience that as well.

There Is Gold in your backyard and CES Conference Videos – Half off until tomorrow 2/24

There Is Gold in your backyard

I had the tremendous opportunity to speak at a small internet marketing conference in Denver this past week. My wife was able to come with me and we took some time to sightsee. We were doing some shopping and walked into a small shop that specializes in antique maps and high end gifts. The manager was very friendly and began to chat with us about the store. She told us about the different maps and historical pieces she had. As a history buff it was fascinating, but the whole time I was thinking “Are they selling online?” and “How can I help them?” I can’t shut it off. 🙂 When I meet someone I’m thinking “Is there a way for me to help them with their business or to start a business?”

Finding a Mentor, CES Videos, Lifetime Access to MySilentTeam.com, and Offline Biz

Webster’s dictionary defines a mentor as a “wise and faithful counselor.” In my personal life I look to my father as the man I want to be. In my business my mentor is Jim Cockrum, recently named one of the most trusted internet marketers.

I have been following Jim since about 2004, but I had the pleasure of first meeting him in 2012. I had no idea, but that lunch meeting changed my business forever. One idea he presented to me has catapulted our business far beyond what I could have imagined. Since then we have partnered on a book project and I suspect we’ll partner in many more projects.

Who is your mentor? I challenge you to find someone that has built the type of business you want to have and has character qualities that you admire.

Real Wholesale Sources Ebook…..Coming Soon!

ebook_REALwholesale_2

Do any of these sound familiar?

– Driving around all day going from store to store to source products to come away with only a few items to sell
– Finding a great item with amazing profit potential at a thrift store and selling it quickly at top dollar, but not being able to find it again to repeat the process
– Searching for hours online at all the clearance sites to no avail
– Perusing craigslist looking for items to buy and flip, but having to drive 30 minutes to make a few dollars profit
– Spending all day on a Saturday going from garage sale to garage sale looking at other people’s junk

Don’t get me wrong. All of the above mentioned inventory sources can be a great way to find products to sell online and I personally use many of these sources for products. However, I would prefer to find a great selling product that I can consistently buy to sell online. This is the beauty of buying wholesale.

You might be saying “Isn’t it difficult to get accounts with wholesale sources without a brick and mortar store?” Maybe 15 years ago it was, but things are rapidly changing. More and more wholesalers are seeing that the internet is not going away anytime soon and that if they want to keep up they have to sell to online dealers.

What’s in this product? Over 200 wholesale sources that you can purchase from in your pajamas. Some will require a state sales tax permit (we’ll show you how to get one) and some won’t.

Why would we share this information? We can’t possibly buy all the items we have found so there’s plenty of inventory to go around for everyone.

We will be releasing this very soon. We can email you when it’s ready for purchase if you enter your email address in the form to the right.
